William E. "Bill" Black

William E. Black, 83, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Menno Haven Memory Care Home. Born November 14, 1941, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Margaret (Seiders) Black. Bill and his beloved wife, Elke H. (Anders) Black, were married July 9, 1962. Together they shared 46 years together before her passing September 28, 2008.

He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1960. Bill then went on to serve with the United States Army and later with the Air National Guard retiring as a master staff sergeant in 2001. Bill was employed as a machinist for TB Woods, Chambersburg and for Mack Truck, Hagerstown, MD. He retired from Mack Truck in 2004.

He was a faithful member of The Open Door Church, Chambersburg. Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, refurbishing pool tables, tending to his yard and garden, and traveling all over the world.

He is survived by a son, William H. Black and wife Deborah; a daughter, Carolyn L. Crowder and husband Mark; two granddaughters, Angela Beck and her husband Billy and Cassandra Preston and her husband Rogine; and four grandsons, Radley and Mraz Beck and Joshua and Kobe Preston. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three siblings, Freddie Black, Nancy Metz and Janice Carty and his second wife, Nancy Barnhart Black.

Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 19, 2025, in The Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Mike Sanders and Rev. Carl McKee officiating. Burial will follow in Norland Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the church Friday morning.
