William C. “Bill” Eichelberger, Jr., 79, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Rest Haven Rehab and Nursing in York, PA. Born July 31, 1946, in Ashland, PA, he was a son of the late William C. Eichelberger, Sr., and LaVaughn “Bonnie” Cooper Eichelberger. His beloved wife, Patricia Ann Eichelberger, whom he married on July 19, 1975, preceded him in death on October 23, 2018.
Bill was a 1964 graduate of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, PA. A US Army veteran, Bill served honorably from 1965 – 1971. He completed basic training at Fort Gordon, GA, and jump school and pathfinder training at Fort Benning; GA. He served two tours in Vietnam and was wounded in battle. Among his decorations were the Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge. Following his military service, Bill earned an associate’s degree in Forestry from Penn State Mont Alto in 1975. He was employed as a welder at Letterkenny Army Depot for 32 years until his retirement.
Bill was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club and Hillsdale Hunting Camp. He also built and painted duck boxes for use inside Letterkenny Army Depot. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, going to the hunting cabin and spending time with his family. In his spare time he enjoyed fixing whatever needed fixed.
Surviving are two children, Amy Farina (Matt Bowen) of Shippensburg, Joseph Eichelberger (Jackie) of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren, Yanna, Patrick, Colin and Cody Eichelberger, Dylan and Kenzie Meckley, and Brooke and Lexi Bowen; several great grandchildren; and two siblings, Donna Markette of Upper Chichester, PA and Ruth Crockett (Stan) of Brook Haven, PA. Aside from his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by two siblings, Craig Keeran and Gloria Davacoto.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Michael Allwein will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
