Willis Duane Piper, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Devon House Senior Living in Allentown, PA. Born in Dry Run, PA on May 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Elmer and Grace Lorene Zeigler Piper.
Mr. Piper was a 1955 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and a 1959 graduate of the former Shippensburg State Teacher’s College. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960-1966. Mr. Piper was a teacher from 1959 until he retired in 1996 in the Chambersburg Area School District. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and AmVets in Chambersburg. He loved antique tractors and cars, camping with his family, and telling jokes and stories.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly J. Lindsay Piper, whom he married on June 9, 1960; two children, Debra Pelow (husband Bryce) of Shippensburg, PA and James Piper (wife Bethany) of Coopersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Andrew and Levi Pelow of Shippensburg, PA and Lexi Piper of Coopersburg, PA; and a sister, Joyce Strock of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Lee Piper.
A memorial service will be held on January 2, 2026, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Kevin Witter will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Association, the National Military Family Association, or the American Red Cross.
