Wilma Mae Peckman Young, age 95, of St. Thomas, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at The Village at Luther Ridge in Chambersburg, PA. Born July 1, 1929 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Ruie Hoover Peckman. She lived all her life in the St. Thomas-Chambersburg area and was a resident of the Luther Ridge Retirement Village for six years. She graduated from the St. Thomas Vocational High School in 1947 and the Chambersburg Area School District Practical Nursing program in 1969. She was employed for a short time as a Licensed Practical Nurse and nineteen years as a dental assistant. She loved the Lord and her family, and enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and counted cross-stitch. Many of these projects were shared with family and friends.
She was a former member of the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church where she taught Sunday School for over fifty years, was a leader of the Missions Program and the Women's Sewing Auxiliary, and an organist for twenty-seven years. She had a great interest in Bible Study and through the years led several small group Home Bible Studies. In later years she was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class.
Wilma is survived by a daughter, Carol Young Gipe, and husband, Stanley, Chambersburg; a son, Timothy B. Young and wife, Debbie, Chambersburg; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Young, St. Thomas; six grandchildren, Trina Gipe Snoke (George), Chambersburg; Kevin Young, Arlington, VA; Troy Gipe (Sherry), Chambersburg; Steven Young (Anna), Annapolis, MD; Grant Young, and Cameron Young, Chambersburg; nine great-grandchildren, Maekaila and Madelyn Buselli (Peyton); Morgan Snoke; Jarrett, Reece, Max, and Lilliana Gipe; and Aden and Jack Young; and one great-great-granddaughter, Georgia Buselli.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde, on May 20, 2022; a son, Lee A. Young, on June 8, 2021; an infant sister, Mildred Peckman; two sisters, Grace Peckman Wingert and Miriam Peckman; two brothers, Lester Peckman and Mervin Peckman; sisters-in-law, Pauline Peckman and Lois Peckman; brother-in-law, Avery Wingert; and adopted brother, John, and wife, Fannie Slick.
Services will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11 am at the Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, with Pastors Steven Trostle and Kevin Witter officiating. Burial will be held at 2 PM in the Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends for 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
